Janmashtami, the well-known celebration of Hindus is celebrated with extraordinary energy and enthusiasm in India and across the world. Janmashtami usually occurs in the month of August-September. On this day, devotees fast, sing devotional songs to Krishna and keep vigil at night. After the hour of midnight, which is when Krishna was born, figurines of the infant are bathed, clothed, and placed in a jhula or cradle. Devotees break their fast and celebrate with food and sweets. A lot of thought and preparation goes into adorning the home for the celebration to welcome little Krishna. Through this article, we will walk you through some ideas to decorate your home.
Laddu Gopal idol and Swing decoration: Laddu Gopal, the child figurine of Lord Krishna is viewed as the most lovable one. A beautiful Jhula (cradle) is decorated for baby Krishna. The idol placed in the Jhula symbolizes the birth of Lord Krishna. There are so many creative artists selling beautiful handmade jhulas that you could choose from. But you can create your own DIY Jhula at home as well. All you need is a cardboard box, fabric, and some decorative ribbons and stones.
Take a look at some of our favourite picks for handcrafted jhulas from House of Art and Art from the heart by van respectively:

Fast/Bhog food and Sweets: Since Lord Krishna is particularly fond of milk, a variety of dishes using milk and its products are made/bought for the fast. Sweets like Peda, Shrikhand, Kalakand, Vella Seedai, Neyyappam are offered to Lord Krishna. Sweet dishes including desserts (preferably kheer) are eaten during the fast. Some of our vendors offer mouth-watering sweets for Janmashtami such as Pikkle Shikkle and Neenu’s Naturals. Neenu’s Naturals also provides bhog/fast food.
