This guide provides you with tips to make your store page look amazing with the right banners.
A banner is a very important section of your store page as it is the first thing customers will see on your store. Hence, the look and feel of your banner directly influences the look of your store page. Dufa creates a default banner for you if you do not upload one, but it doesn’t define your store. We highly recommend adding your custom store banner. When banners are designed right and communicate what they need to, they create a sense of visually appeal and in turn entice customers to buy more from your online store.
Types of Banners:
Store Banners on Dufa can be used not only for your store brand but it can be used in the following instances. You can change your banner as often as you like based on your strategy. We recommend once in 2 weeks is a good time or whenever the need arises.
- About us Banner: This banner can be your default banner that speaks about your store. You can use this type of banner if you do not have anything specific like a sale or promotion or collection going on in your store. While designing this banner, make sure you capture the essence of what the store sells and stands for.
- Banner for a Collection: Any new collections that your store comes up with, you can create a banner specifically for that and upload it. It directly conveys the message to existing customers that you have something new in your store.
- Banner for specific product: This could be either for a brand new product, or a hot selling product or something you want to clear out. Create these banners accordingly with the appropriate messaging.
- Banner for promotions: Anything that is event based – Diwali Sale or Mother’s Day Special can go on your banner. You can communicate your discount % or whatever offer you are running on your store on the banner.
Designing your banner:
Choosing the right font and size: Choose comparatively large font size to attract attention on the banner. But it isn't just the size of your text that matters, you also need to think about the font type. There are a lot of different fonts out there but when it comes to banners, you need to think about readability. Typically, bold sans-serif fonts, Open Sans, Verdana font can be used which are bolded to highlight the important messaging.
Choosing colors: Different colors have different associations, and it’s important to consider what emotions you want to evoke in your customers. Typography: Typography is the style of putting the text, fonts together. Some tips for typography are as follows:
- Contrasting Titles and subtitles: Have bold big titles and subtle cursive small font subtitles.
- Extra letter spacing for Titles: Use capital Titles and provide some extra spacing between letters to create impact
- Play with the thickness level of fonts: Some fonts have more or less thickness or weight. Sometimes your text can be long and using bold font may not be an option. This is where the thin weight fonts would come in handy and they look extremely chic.
- Add color to single words: Changing the color of just one word can highlight the banner immensely. It creates a visual break and easily attracts attention
- Limit number of different fonts and colors: Do not use too many colors or mix up too many fonts in one banner. Two font types is great and may 2-3 colors to highlight different areas. You can play with the size of the fonts if needed.
- Text alignment: Center align the Title, if it’s too big then you can Left Align the title. Right aligned text is harder to read, so stray away from using right aligned.
Keep your branding in mind: Make sure your banners reflect your branding. Try to use similar colors in your logo and set the similar vibes overall.
Choosing messaging: It’s extremely important that your banner communicates what it is intended to do. It must not be a clutter of words but should convey just enough that the customers get the gist of it in just a few seconds. If you are running a promotion and having a sale, ensure your text highlights the Discount and what the sale is for. If it’s your generic store banner, ensure it includes your tagline, logo and what the store stands for in a few words.
Images and Design: The focus of banners is to attract attention in a glance. Customers while shopping online need something catchy as they glance through a page and their attention is only 3-4 secs. We went over color, typography and sizing - but another major aspect is to include high resolution, great quality graphic images or designs. Not only do high-quality images help to draw attention, but they can also help to reinforce your message and set the vibe.
Size of Banners:
On Dufa, you need to upload banners with a resolution of 600 x 350 pixels and the size of the file should not be more than 250 -300 KB. You need to upload this from the Seller App. Dufa adapts the file to the laptop & tablet resolutions.
