Tell your story to buyers
by Dufa Staff | 24 August 2020
This guide provides you with tips to tell your story to buyers.
Customers want to know you and would love to hear what goes behind the products they purchase. Here are 3 aspects you need to take care of while telling your story i.e. put a face behind the store by adding your profile picture, tell your story through the shop description and through a video.
Profile Picture:
People would love to see the face behind the lovely products you create. Add a picture and take credit for the work you do and for people to identify with you. A picture creates a sense of trust and bonding between the sellers and buyers, hence add a picture today. The picture can be added while you sign up and register for your shop or it can be added from User Settings.
Ensure your profile picture is a face shot, so your face is clearly visible to buyers.

Shop Description:
Building human connections are the heart and soul of businesses. Especially when the business is online, customers want to feel that personal touch. The only way you can connect with the customer is through your store page and the story you communicate to them.
Dufa strives to make online shopping experience unique for their customers so customers do not miss the touch and feel of products and the human element associated with shopping. We believe that storytelling is a powerful technique for building relationships. It’s an age-old concept that brings people together and keeps them engaged. It doesn’t matter where your customer is in the world, its these stories that make the world smaller and builds connections.
Filling the Description section of your shop is the next step you need to do so buyers can view the story behind your artwork and business. Let customers know when you started, what the art is about, what makes your products unique, how much time does it take you to create each piece. Share your passion and inspire fellow artists and attract buyers who want to know your story.

Here are somethings you can think of including in your story:
- How you started your business or hobby
- What motivates and inspires you to create what you do
- How your products came to be, the art origin
- What kind of customers find value in your products
- A view into the people behind the company (example weavers, your team)
- A look into who you are as a company, your values and what you stand for
- Your impact through your creations
Tips on drafting your story
- Write down keywords: Write down all possible keywords that your company stands for and that you’d like to include in your story. This helps you structure and frame you story. For example, sustainable, organic, social impact etc.
- Be conversational: Write the story as you are having a conversation with someone. Be human and make it realistic.
- Simplicity and brevity: Make sure you use simple words to express yourself. The story must be brief, about 500 – 600 words tops.
- Be genuine and authentic: Make sure you story is genuine, original, and authentic
Submitting a Video:
A picture speaks a thousand words, and a video can do much more. Submit a video of your story while you are working on your creations or about your company.

Video specifications: A short video of a maximum duration between 45 secs to 1 min. Make sure the video is yours. Do not post something that isn’t your content. The video submitted will be added to Dufa’s channel on Youtube and a link will be shared with you. You need to enter this link in the store settings.
If you already have a Youtube link of a video of your business or story, you can go ahead and add the link to the Video URL field from Store Settings on the Seller App.
Tips for creating your own video:
- Be yourself: You need to bring you true personality out to people. Often people are camera shy and subconsciously change their behavior in front of a camera and become tense and worked up. The idea is to bring your true self including humor during the shoot.
- Human touch: Don’t stress over making a professional video. Your customers will empathize more with your video if you have that human touch. This will show your humanity and will help build trust with your video story.
- Focus on what you stand for: Do not be persuasive or market products in your video. Instead focus on what you and your company stand for.
- Inspire your buyers: Your customers are looking to learn something new, inspiring, that could enrich their lives. Spell out your company’s values and inspire your buyers with your story.
- Simplicity: Don’t overload your video with too much information or special effects. A simple storyline and key message are really all you need.
- Set the Tone: Make your video entertaining by setting a tone. Decide if you want to make a fun, quirky video or a serious tone focusing on social impact.
